Dr Vanessa Heron is a dual-qualified Nephrologist and Obstetric Medicine Physician, committed to delivering patient-centred care. Vanessa graduated with honours from Monash University in 2013 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2020 before completing further specialist training in obstetric medicine. Vanessa holds public appointments at both Austin Health and Mercy Hospital for Women.
Vanessa is undertaking a PhD at the University of Melbourne investigating urinary biomarkers in pre-eclampsia, supported by a prestigious Jacquot Research Entry Scholarship. In 2018, Vanessa was awarded the Shaun Summers Clinical Trainee Prize for research completed during her Nephrology training and was a finalist in the Discovery & Translational Science Award at the 2025 Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology Congress. She is passionate about medical education and holds an appointment as a University of Melbourne medical student tutor.
Vanessa welcomes referrals for all kidney-related concerns. She also has expertise in managing maternal medical conditions before, during and after pregnancy, working closely with other medical specialists to ensure coordinated care. Vanessa’s clinical interests include chronic kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, dialysis, obstetric nephrology and general obstetric medicine.
